AZ for Mitt

A blog dedicated to informing Arizonans about Mitt Romney and the campaign for the 2008 presidential nomination.

Thursday, February 07, 2008

This will be the last post of AZ for Mitt. Thank you to all of you Romney supporters out there, especially in the Grand Canyon State.

As for November, I cannot vote for McCain in good conscience. I'll still vote for Romney as a write-in candidate.
If there's anything this primary contest has taught me it is that I am a conservative more than I am a Republican. I used to think the two terms were synonymous, but now I know better.

Best wishes.

Update: An e-mail from a friend:
Within minutes of hearing that Mitt Romney was ending his bid for the White House I changed my party affiliation to "No Party Preference". Suffice it to say that I do not align myself with the GOP nor any political party. I am instead guided by conservative values that, as you have noticed, are alarmingly lacking from the GOP and all other political parties.

Please continue the cause that you have so diligently defended. Not necessarily use that website, but use the idea. This is not over.

If we make Romney a write in, he will not be a Ross Perot. He wouldn't be a spoiler. He wouldn't be running for president, and would not be involved in debates. It will send the right message to the republican party that we are for conservatives first, and republicans only if they are conservatives. It leaves Romney off the hook for backlash, and worst case, it will make him Gold for 2012 without stepping on anyone's toes. And if he gets the majority vote, so be it. Just post his last speech, and keep the grass burning. I know Democrats who will vote Romney, we already know republicans will, and I bet Ron Paul & Huckabee supporters will fall I line, if the grassroots effort is great enough. Conservatives stood up to the Amnesty Deal. People will come out to write in Romney if they know there is a movement. I say we re-group, and take the fight on our own. Think of the statement 4+ million write-ins would make. We cannot settle for McCain. We can always reverse what Obama & Clinton can do. We can stop them in the senate and in the house. But once we completely lose the Republican party to the left, we will have to search out a leader and build from scratch. 4+ million votes (believe that's the count of who voted for him so far) sounds like a good core.

Please do not do what the media and the liberals want us to do. Please don't concede to McCain. He is not going to win the general election.

Brokered Convention = a discussion about what it means to be a Republican.

1) Republican Brokered Conventions result in wins!

Abraham Lincoln – 3rd Ballot - Won Presidency
Rutherford Hayes – 7th Ballot - Won Presidency
James Garfield - 36th Ballot - Won Presidency
Warning Harding – 10th Ballot – Won Presidency
Dwight D. Eisenhower – “2nd Ballot” – Won Presidency

2) A Brokered Convention gives conservatives a voice. A Brokered Convention gives Mitt Romney a voice. A Brokered Convention keeps media attention on the Republican party for the next 6 months for free! If we just roll over and go to sleep the media will almost solely focus on the Democratic contest.

3) McCain has to win 467 more delegates (44% of remaining delegates) to secure the nomination. Huckabee needs 639 delegates (57% of remaining delegates) to force a Brokered Convention.

4) On Super Tuesday McCain got 42% of the vote in Blue States and only 26% in Red States. Over 60% of McCain’s delegates have come from Blue States. Do we really want our candidate picked by States that we have very little chance of winning in the Fall?

5) 71% of the remaining delegates are from Red States. If we unite we can force this to a Brokered Convention.

6) During the 10 days leading up to Super Tuesday, Mitt asked Huckabee to drop out and for conservatives to unite behind him. The Golden Rule asks for “you to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” For the sake of conservatives please support a Brokered Convention and encourage your supporters to back Huckabee. All of the Moderate and Liberal Republicans that have dropped out have endorsed McCain. Please gather the courage to rally your supporters to the conservative cause to push this to a Brokered Convention.

7) Conservatives Unite! There is still time! Win the Red States and we go to the convention for a discussion about what it means to be a Republican.

Hope this brings encouragement and hope. It is not over!

Spread the word. Feel free to repost this as a Blog Topic at will.
