Thanks to Gov. Huckabee, all schoolchildren in Arkansas get a "fat index" on their report card. Here's what a health official who works with children with eating disorders thinks about that type of idea, which has also been proposed in Texas:

Stephanie Setliff, who treats kids with eating disorders at the Children's Medical Center in Dallas, also believes the proposal is a bad idea. 'We know that eating disorders like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa can be triggered by one comment made from a peer or a coach,' says Setliff. The state's largest teacher group also opposes the bill, saying teachers should just teach. 'The school has a place to provide nutritional food and nutritional information in health class, but they're not doctors,' says Eric Allen with the Association of Texas Professional Educators."

Imagine your little girl, who isn't the media-hyped image of thinness through no fault of her own (good old genetics), coming home in tears because her "fat index" is higher than all of her friends' scores (where low is good). What do you think the odds are of her developing an eating disorder like bulemia or anorexia?

Here's the difference between Mitt Romney and politicians like Mike Huckabee. Politicians latch onto an idea that sounds good to them. Mitt Romney, on the other hand, wants empirical proof that an idea will actually work and not cause unintended consequences worse than the original problem. That's why we need someone who thinks like a businessman, not a politician.

Can you imagine President or Vice-President Huckabee forcing every school in this nation to hand out a "fat index" every time a kid gets a report card? Can you imagine the increase in cases of anorexia and bulemia, not only for junior high or high school students, but or elementary students?
